What Do I Need to Do to Become a Traffic Controller?

To become a fully qualified traffic controller who can work on a roadsite, you need 3 qualifications:

  • Construction Induction Qualification known in NSW as the white card.
  • Traffic Controller Skill Set (To Control Traffic with a Stop/Slow Bat.)
  • Traffic Management Implementer skill set.

Commonsense Safety Training run all of these courses as a combination, or individually.

    • RIISS00058 – Traffic Controller Skill Set including portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs
    • RIISS00060 – Implement Traffic Control Plans Skill Set

    Two days face to face classroom training + live practical assessment.

    Statement of Training issued on the day allowing you to start work immediately.

    Includes SafeWork NSW training card (which will be mailed by SafeWork NSW).

    > Min. 17 Years of Age for Traffic Control or Traffic Implementer

    100 POINTS OF PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED BY SAFEWORK NSW.
    Participants must provide 100 points of evidence to prove their identity before being able to attend the course.
    Please note that non-Australian Driver’s Licences are not accepted.
    A Statement of Attainment cannot be issued if participants are unable to provide valid forms of I.D and a valid USI.

    Please wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt and closed shoes (preferable hard caps).

    High-Vis PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as vests and shoes are available for your use during the course or your can bring your own.

    A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is a reference number that you create online which keeps a record of your training and qualifications attained in Australia.

    All students undertaking nationally recognised training require a Unique Student Identifier (USI) in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment.
